One of my Father’s Day fantasies used to be finding myself in possession of an Airstream. It tantalized me, time and again, in the early days of car trips when the children were young and in the backseat of the car and awake.
Not only did I long for an Airstream, but I wanted my children in that Airstream.
I’d never priced an Airstream, never relaxed in one, never towed one along. I knew they were pricey, but also lovely in their aluminum aerodynamics, their smooth metallic hush.
