As I sat around the campfire, drink in hand, the Grinch passed by in a golf cart and waved. Next, a small girl on her bicycle drove by the campsite and shouted “Ho, Ho, Ho.”
No, this was not a leftover dream from Christmas; it’s Christmas in July at the KOA campground in Lena. Holiday music played in the background and the entire campground was lit up.
And I loved it.
I had gone to the campground with my friends, Shawn and Kim Boldt. Even though there was a threat of rain, it didn’t seem to damper the spirit of the holiday. Yes, this was a warm July night, but for a few hours Christmas had returned. The atmosphere was all about the holidays and people loved it.
Joe Long, who owns the campground with his wife, Diane, gave wagon rides. Santa and Mrs. Claus sat at the head of the wagon. Jingle bells rang in the distance.
