Camping on the Pecos River, Rio Grande and Devil’s River with my family are some of my fondest memories growing up. Last weekend I witnessed many families enjoying that same pastime at Lake Nasworthy.
Thursday night I witnessed droves of families setting up tents, campers and RVs inside the Nasworthy Park preparing for an Easter weekend of camping. Everything from large trailer barbecue pits to small charcoal cookers were being fired up to cook for friends and families getting together.
Normally I might feel a little put out that I could not access my favorite fishing hole. Those thoughts quickly dissipated as my son and I drove around observing a family activity I thought had disappeared into the past. I could not believe the number of people camping out.
