San Jose Mercury News: ‘Glamping’ the opposite of roughing it outdoors

Ah, this is the life! We’re in the middle of the California Delta “glamping,” aka glamour camping. Never heard of it? Well, while regular camping is still popular among young people, glamping is the new trend for older people like us. It consists of parking the RV in the middle of a beautiful forest, panoramic seaside or recreational waterway, and yet you still feel like you never left home. The only thing better than glamping would be a first-class hotel room with room service in Yosemite.

Still not clear? Let me see if I can paint a better picture. Last weekend we were in the redwoods, surrounded by dusty tents, rickety picnic tables, and burned-out barbecues. But while the regular campers were trying to erect their canvas igloos, we simply turned off the RV motor and voilĂ , we were ready to glamp.
