Don’t tell anybody but, on rare occasions, I can be a romantic. In 2014 we were planning a trip to Thailand. Because we live on the east coast, we decided it made sense to fly to the west coast and acclimate for a few days before boarding the 14 hour flight to Bangkok. Denise had been talking about camping and buying a motor home for several years. I had always pooh-pooh’d the idea. But to surprise her I did some research and proposed a plan.
“What if we flew to San Francisco and rented a camper van to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles?”, I asked. And that, my friends, is how it started.
We had driven past enough CruiseAmerica motor homes on the highway to know that there were companies that rented Class C’s. But frankly I was intimidated to drive something that big, and by the mechanics of a true motor home. A camper van, seemed easy and manageable. I would be lying if I said I did exhaustive research, but I did research two companies on the internet that seemed to offer what we wanted.
