Roadmaster offers LED, socket kit for tow cars

A 450-Lumen LED bulb and socket lighting kit for towed vehicles is now available from Roadmaster.

The purpose of the kit is identical to the original, and that is to conduct brake light, turn signal and running light signals from the motorhome to the towed vehicle’s taillights, as required by law.

The major advantage of a bulb and socket kit is that it bypasses the towed vehicle’s electrical system, which eliminates the concern of interacting with any vehicle electronics.

LEDs have significant safety and appearance advantages over incandescent bulbs — they’re brighter, they activate faster and they last longer. Another advantage over incandescent bulbs is that LEDs do not generate significant heat, so there’s no danger of melting the tail light lens, the release noted.

This complete kit contains a 27-foot wiring harness, six connectors, two bulbs, two sockets and installation instructions.

As with all kits of this type, the towed vehicle’s taillights must have room for an extra socket and bulb inside the lens housing, the relase explained.

The kit (part No. 155-LED) has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $98.92. It comes with a on-year warranty.
