My husband and I have been camping together for as long as we’ve been married. In fact, we pitched a tent in the forest the second night after our wedding — because nothing is quite as romantic as bickering over tent poles in the near-dark, to say nothing of the outdoor latrine.
A year later, we celebrated our anniversary by taking a camping trip, though we opted for the luxury of vault toilets and running water this time (we may or may not have argued over tent poles). We drank coffee as black as our first night in the woods and sat in our camp chairs until our fire grew ashen.
Eventually, we’d add children to our family and upgrade to a bigger tent. And apparently, we got soft, since we no longer camped in the wild, but chose decidedly more civilized locales.
