As we spend our days locked in the city, we might forget that we live in a hotbed of natural parks, all able to give unique outdoor experiences. While the wind might be whipping up, the days and nights are getting warmer. This is also the time of year many people get a jump on their camping and hiking treks. Here are a few stunning state parks, just a hop, skip and jump away to explore.
Leasburg Dam State Park
Only 25 minutes from Las Cruces is Leasburg Dam State Park. When the Rio Grande is full, the park has canoeing and kayaking, and the habitat lends itself to bird watching. Some native species include rock wren, verdin, sparrows, ladder-backed woodpecker and more. In summer, look for warblers, phainopepla, Bullock’s oriole and warbling vireo.
