Westfield, Wis. is in the middle of nowhere; at least according to my granddaughter from the city. Rosemary is spending a week in the country with us. She is enjoying her time playing with her cousins, but we may as well be from outer space because she see our ways as being so different from hers.
Rosemary lives in Janesville, a mere 101 miles or 97 minutes away. Again, it may as well be outer space because we don’t get to see her nearly as often as we would like. Janesville has a population over 64,000 strong, compared to Westfield’s 1,500 people. No wonder she experiences culture shock here!
I am proud of the fact that despite her dislike of sand between her toes, Rosemary enjoyed everything else the country has to offer. She loved helping with chores since they included feeding the horse. I think she liked the tractor rides grandpa gave her more than anything. She wasn’t afraid to try new things.
In Rosemary’s case, the apple did not fall far from the tree in the sense that she loves to explore new surroundings. She gets it from her daddy, who received the wanderlust gene from me!
When I am in a new location or an opportunity presents itself, I explore all there is offer and take advantage of the time and opportunity.
If I have a trip planned, I research the area to verify the tourist attractions, the must see and do. I also verify if the attraction has parking for our big rig to avoid frustration when we arrive.
I never know if I will get another opportunity to revisit so I want to make sure I have a plan in place so I don’t miss anything, even if I am in the middle of nowhere!
