With nearly 5,000 acres of land, Brighton Recreation Area in Howell, Mich., has something to suit everyone. The high-use area has trails for hiking, biking and even equestrian use. There are many lakes to enjoy water sports such as fishing, kayaking, swimming and more. Metal detecting, birding and seasonal hunting are popular on the parks land as well.

Michigan is known for its beautiful camping on the Great Lakes and the inland parks are sometimes overlooked. The campground is situated on Bishop Lake and is a quiet, tranquil spot to enjoy your next camping trip.

  • Endless miles of hiking and biking trails
  • Free dump and fresh water fill station on site
  • Boat ramp and new ADA accessible kayak launch ramp
  • Kayaks for rent
  • Very clean bathhouse with heated private showers
  • On-site concessions during peak season at main beach
  • Large fishing dock over Bishop Lake
  • Two swimming areas with a recreation area as well
  • Fishing pier off trail in campground
  • Upper and lower levels allow you to be near or away from the water depending on your preference
  • Free coffee available on weekends
  • Camp host available to help guide you around the area and help if issue may arise
  • Park rangers on staff to maintain grounds and ensure safety of campers
  • Many sites can accommodate big rigs
  • Ranger-led free activities like crafts, hikes and nature talks are available on weekends

Cons

  • Sites are 20- and 30-amp electric only
  • Playground in recreation area located one mile from campground
  • Very bumpy, dirt road leads into the park from the east
