Summary:

As new to the fifth wheel world folks a year ago, we were overwhelmed by all the choices when it came to set up of our new rig! Hoses, chocks, leveling blocks, stabilizers, and the list goes on.

Which things were worth the money and which things did we really not need to invest in? We did our web research, asked fellow campers, and observed what others did.

When it came to wheel chocks, we invested a little more money and are very happy with our purchase of the BAL X Chocks. They secure our wheels during our stay and prevent movement that puts pressure on the front stabilizer legs when hooking up and unhooking our truck and trailer.

Pros

  • Made from quality stainless steel. We chose metal over plastic when it came to securing our RV.
  • Easy to adjust to just about any wheel base size
  • Provides stability once RV is parked
  • X Chocks have a rust inhibition coating applied
  • Ratchet wrench included
  • Made in the USA
  • Optional lock available for purchase
  • Lightweight (combined weight was 1.4 pounds)
  • Dramatically reduces rocking and swaying in RV
  • Very compact for storage

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Heavier than plastic chocks
  • Can cause tire damage if overtightened
  • Ratchet is plastic and my affect longevity of ratchet
